Farm Store will open August 20th!

Remember the tiny little goats?

The dairy is almost finished. Now that the back rooms are painted we only have to install the sinks and hot water heater before we have the inspector walk through.

I'm still giving us a bit of leeway though. After months of "two weeks" I think I've learned my lesson.:o)

Our goats are wormed with an herbal wormer that is safe for humans...(I dose my family with it too.)...and I'm happy to share the ingredients with you if you'd like.
I mix my own feed for the goats and it contains only oats, barley, black oil sunflower seeds, and a bit of molasses to bind it. I also use sea kelp as a supplement for the goats.
The goats have free choice coastal hay from a local source who practices hand weeding and who fertilizes by injection when they have tested and see that the soil needs it.
The alfalfa is also from a local source, but they use conventional farming methods. I've yet to discover a farmer who grows alfalfa without chemicals.

(If you know one, hollar at me. I would be thrilled!)

I treat my goats the same way I do my children. We try every natural method we can find before we use a chemical to treat an illness. We work hard to prevent problems before they happen. And so far it's looking good.
We expect to be selling our Grade A Raw for Retail goat milk by August 20th. If you'd like to be placed on the wait list then email me at www.restlessprairiefarm@yahoo.com .

The chickens are coming along nicely. It won't be long now before our egg production is high enough to share on a regular basis.  The chicks are moving to free range just like the big guys. They have kept the grasshopper population down in the garden, now they will be moving to see what they can do with the rest of the property.

The Holy Cow Beef Co-op is up and running! Our first delivery will be August 1st. Email me for the order form if you are interested in some of the tastiest grass fed, grass finished beef that can be found within 60 miles of Wichita Falls. :o)

I am fighting the heat to get the landscaping done. It seems that the small window I have in the morning keeps getting smaller. The fall garden should be in next week.

If conner will leave it alone. That goofy dog LOVES to dig up things I've planted.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call or email me!

Stay cool and pray for rain.

MY goodness, that's a tiny little goat! I would love to know the ingredients of your herbal wormer.

Wormwood, black walnut, garlic, and some bits of different things depending on if a goat is sick or not.

I've lost my recipe, and the book that created it...lol. It's "The complete herbal handbook for farm and stable" by Juliette de Bairacli Levy. I took that book and my knowledge of how I treat my family and combined them to build my own herbal wormer.

It's a lot more cost effective for me.

I was buying from Molly's herbals until my herbalist fried said, "Why are you buying something you could easily make?"

Why indeed? :o)
